PM2.5 Air Pollution Warning for Greater Bangkok and the North

The Centre for Air Pollution Mitigation (CAPM) has reported that Bangkok city and many provinces in northern Thailand will experience an increase in fine particulate matter of 2.5 microns or less in diameter (PM2.5) next week.

CAPM director Atthapol Charoenchansa, who is also director-general of the pollution control department, said the centre estimates that stagnant air and lower wind speeds next week will cause PM2.5 concentrations to rise in Bangkok and neighbouring provinces between January 25 and 26. PM2.5 levels are expected to reach hazardous levels in seventeen provinces in northern Thailand from 25 to 28 January.

During this period, the director-general advised residents to avoid outdoor activities, wear protective masks and refrain from burning objects in order not to contribute to air pollution. He also urged citizens to keep informed about the air quality in their respective areas via the websites Air4Thai.com and Bangkokairquality.com, or via the mobile applications Air4Thai and AirBKK, before going out.
