In the Obi-Wan Kenobi series we follow the adventures of Obi-Wan after Order 66. In that perticular time on the complex Star Wars timeline, the Jedi are defeated and the Empire starts its dominion. The Jedi are haunted on by Inquisitors en Obi-Wan Kenobi fears for his life.

From what we know, we can expect a lot of lightsaber action because Disney+ had already announced some information about what to expect, an overview:

  • Hayden Christensen will play the rol of Anakin Skywalker/ Darth Vader again
  • Darth Vader will fight the tutilar character
  • The Grand Inquisitor, knows as Star Wars Rebels will also be in the series

Cast

Unsurprisingly, Obi-Wan Kenobi himself, Ewan McGregor, was the first to be confirmed for the series.

“I’m more excited about doing this one than I was doing the second and third one that we did before,” McGregor told Empired. “I’m excited about working with Deborah Chow, the director of The Mandolarian. I think the storylines are going to be really good. And I’m also excited to play him again. It’s been long enough since I played him before.”

It’s fair to say quite a lot has changed since his last Star Wars dalliance. “The advancement in technology has opened up a whole new world to creators,” says McGregor. “The first three [Star Wars films] I did were really at the very beginning of digital photography,” he said.

Following the landmark confirmation Christensen Hayden will also appear, returning to the set as Anakin Skywalker/Darth Vader. Fans are thrilled that Hayden Christensen will be returning in the role of Darth Vader. This will be the rematch of the century.

“It was such an incredible journey playing Anakin Skywalker,” Christensen said at the Disney announcement. “Of course, Anakin and Obi-Wan weren’t on the greatest of terms when we last saw them… It will be interesting to see what an amazing director like Deborah Chow has in store for us all. I’m excited to work with Ewan again. It feels good to be back.”

Plot

If there’s one thing we know about the Star Wars universe, is that it’s shrouded in secrecy, and there is a lot of information out there that Lucasfilm and Disney don’t want us to know, and that leads to a lot of speculation.

McGregor also confirmed the narrative would unfold over six episodes, which will each be roughly an hour long. He added that it was planned as a one-off limited series, so this may be the only time we see Obi Wan in action again.

The most beautiful thing is that it brought me back together with Hayden, having another swing at eachother might be quite satisfying for everybody

President of Lucasfilm Kathleen Kennedy has also confirmed that Obi-Wan and Darth Vader are goign to fight eachother in a lightsaber duel again. She said “Obi-Wan Kenobi begins 10 years after the dramatic events of Revenge of the Sith, where he faced his greatest defeat: the downfall and corruption of his best friend and Jedi apprentice, Anakin Skywalker a.k.a. Darth Vader.” But does this mean Vader’s former apprentice, Ahsoka Thano, will appear too? Rumours suggest this could be a possibility now that Anakin is back in the picture.

“The most beautiful thing of all is that it’s brought me back together with Hayden,” McGregor says. “Having another swing at each other might be quite satisfying for everybody.”

Violence

It looks like the series is not for sensitive viewers, since it promises to be bloody violent.

We already know that we’re going to get to see the Third Sister and the Grand Inquisitor. They’re brutal and do not fear violence. Rumour says that the hands of the inhabitants of Tatooine are going to be chopped off, much to the amusement of the Grand Inquisitor. We don’t want to be spoilers, so we only gave you one of many examples of the ruthlessness of the Inquisitors. In general, it seems to set the tone for the Obi-Wan Kenobi series.

So for better or worse, get ready to relive the prequel era of Star Wars to its fullest. The series will be released solely and exclusively on Disney+.
