On June 16, 2017, there were 4-5 male assailants who shot and fired Mr. Samart Phalasin at the entrance to a school in Pak Nam Subdistrict, Mueang Krabi District, which led to his later death. However, shortly after the incident, the officers were able to arrest one of the members of the gunman’s group, swearing that Ms. Premchanan hired him to kill for “overdue drug debts”. As a result, the police gathered evidence to request the court’s power to issue an arrest warrant. Later, the arresting officers learned that Ms. Premchanan had fled and hidden in the Bangkok area, leading the force to finally arrest her.
Ms. Premchanan, however, refused the arrest, but the officers weren’t convinced. She now has been sent back to Krabi for the further legal process.
Widely known as a spot with numerous drug cases, Krabi is under close watch for suppression. According to Mr. Somsak Thepsutin, Minister of Justice, it was reported that the drug problem is a threat to the security of the country. The government has expedited the implementation of the new drug policy that will more effectively suppress the issue by giving importance to the process of participation from all sectors, strictly enforcing the law, and preparing a new drug code that allows some types of drugs for medical and economic uses. Most importantly, they are making sure drug offenders receive proper punishments, with the focus on destroying important drug trafficking structures and networks.
