A Pakistani refugee was killed when allegedly struck by the son of a former national police chief whilst driving his Porsche in Bangkok.
In what for some may bring back memories of the Red Bull incident, a Porsche Taycan Turbo S driven by Pornmet Songmetta, son of Pol Gen Wirachai Songmetta, crashed into the Yamaha Fino motorcycle driven by Waseem Ahmad near the Taksin Bridge in Bangkok, around 1am, according to Pol Capt Thamnong Montha, deputy inspector at the Samrae police station.
Waseem Ahmad later died from head injuries at Taksin Hospital. The driver, Pornmet Songmetta suffered head and face injuries from contact with the steering wheel and received treatment at Suksawat Hospital.
Bangkok Post reported that following his treatment, Pornmet Songmetta reported to police and admitted that he had carelessly made a sudden lane change before the incident. Police were waiting for results of his alcohol blood test and medical examination, Pol Capt Thamnong said.
Mr Pornmet, 29, is an executive of Absolute Clean Energy, listed on the SET100 Index. His family hold significant shares in the business. In October last year, a court overturned Pol Gen Wirachai Songmetta’s firing a year earlier for an alleged leak of sensitive recordings.
During the call, former national police chief Chakthip Chaijinda tells Pol Gen Wirachai to avoid looking into another high-profile police incident involving Police Gen. Surachate “Big Joke” Hakparn.
The Taycan new was Bt 11.9 Million. Mr. Pornmet’s Porsche was also taken to the police station for a forensic examination. The public will interested to see justice done, as this situation has some echos of the Red Bull case, where again the son of a wealthy family escaped consequences by using his wealth to avoid the criminal justice system and flee overseas.
