The Krabi governor is driving the concept ‘Songkran in a new way, Inherit Thai Culture’ to promote Songkran tradition.
On April 12, Mr. Puttipong Sirimat, the governor of Krabi, presided over the traditional Songkran ritual, which was pouring the scented water onto the hands of the elderly who are the good role models in Krabi to inherit the Songkran customs. The Prime Minister of the Red Cross, many heads of government agencies, civil servants, seniors, groups, and organizations also attended the ceremony at the Krabi Governor’s Mansion, Muang District, Krabi Province.
With the agenda to drive the opening of the city, the concept of “Songkran in a new way, Inherit Thai Culture” is being promoted during the festival this year to build the city branding. At the ceremony, the activities included religious ceremonies such as monks watering the Buddha images, monks watering the hands of the elderly monks, and watering the hands of the governor of Krabi, Prime Minister of the Red Cross, Krabi Province, to show as an example of what people can practice during Songkran.
On this occasion, the governor of Krabi province also awarded an elderly person who is a good role model in Krabi for the year 2022, who is Mrs. Praphai Chansongsaeng, 76, chairman of the Elderly Club, Ban Saphan Phon Health Promoting Hospital, Lam Thap District.
The governor of Krabi said that the Songkran festival was the celebration of Thai New Year’s Day that has been around since the ancient time. The Thai culture prevailing on the day should be preserved and promoted as a beautiful heritage such as the activities shown in the ceremony and dressing in Krabi identity which uses local fabrics.
Because of the limitations to organize festive water events, caused by the pandemic, Krabi this year is attempting to promote practicing Thai traditional customs during Songkran festival as another way to enjoy the fun of the day. Moreover, a highlight on a good elderly role model is being emphasized to raise importance to building quality senior citizens in the city.
