Increase in transportation costs due to the end of the diesel price cap

A 20% increase in transport costs on May 1st… That’s what could happen if The Land Transport Federation’s request to the government to extend its cap-and-trade policy for another year does not succeed.

Indeed, the Federation have threatened to increase transportation costs if the government does not respond to their call to help alleviate the increased financial burden caused by rising fuel prices.

Representatives of the federation and a dozen associations sent their letter to Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha asking him to review the government’s decision to end the diesel price limit on April 30.

They said that to cap the price of diesel, the government could suspend the blending of biodiesel with diesel for one year to reduce the price of diesel by 1.50-2.00 baht per liter. They also proposed that the government reduce the excise tax on diesel to 0.20 baht per liter for one year.
