Collaboration between Microsoft and EGAT to reduce carbon emissions

To reduce carbon emissions, the Electricity Generating Authority of Thailand (EGAT) and Microsoft Thailand have joined forces.

EGAT Governor Boonyanit Wongrukmit and Microsoft Thailand CEO Dhanawat Suthumpun signed a memorandum of understanding with the goal of creating value for EGAT through digital transformation.

Three key areas will be the focus of the three-year collaboration. The first is innovating for a sustainable future through digital technology integration studies and explorations. Cloud platforms are being used to accelerate value creation and business innovations in areas such as renewable energy, battery energy storage systems, grid upgrade, and carbon capture and storage.

The agreement will also modernize EGAT’s operations by implementing digital procedures and systems that integrate technology, automation, and artificial intelligence expertise into management functions. To drive sustainability, these include internal power plant systems, carbon emissions analysis, and environmental impact assessments.

The final area entails strengthening EGAT’s infrastructure to support digital age changes by digitizing documents, utilizing the cloud and other innovations to analyze deep data, modernizing business processes, improving organizational performance, and transforming its IT infrastructure, cybersecurity, and data privacy systems to meet global standards.
