“The fire jellyfish” has invaded Koh Hong Island located in Than Bok Khorani National Park, the authorities have raised a red flag warning residents not to swim due to possible severe allergic reactions that these jellyfish can cause.
As a result, Thais and tourists are no longer allowed to swim since the discovery of many jellyfish floating along the beach of Koh Hong. These small red jellyfish seem to be harmless, but they are very poisonous and should not be touched, otherwise they can cause severe pain and itching, which can lead to serious and potentially fatal allergic reactions in some people. If you accidentally come in contact with the “fire jellyfish”, Mr. Weerasak Sisatchang, responsible for the Than Bok Khorani National Park in Krabi province, advises you to consult a doctor immediately. The joint action of winds and sea currents related to the current weather conditions have caused this accumulation of 3 to 4 centimeters of red jellyfish floating in the sea and some jellyfish have been precipitated onto the beach by wave action. Than Bok Khorani National Park staff is actively working to clean the beach and it is estimated that after one or two days, when the waves are calm, the jellyfish will be gone and tourists will be allowed to swim again.
