Thai Asia Pacific Brewery Group’s beer goes green

Thai Asia Pacific Brewery Group’s (TAP Group) production manager, Mr. Kawee Meksongrek, said the TAP Group’s beer plant in Thailand is going green. Kawee Meksongrek, manufacturer and distributor of Heineken, Tiger and Shea beverages, said that TAP’s beer factory in Sai Yai sub-district, Nonthaburi province, has developed a solar farm project “TAP’s Brewed by the Sun” that uses 1.2 megawatt photovoltaic solar panels on a 10-rai area to reduce the electricity consumed in the factory. When the solar energy system is ready to produce at its full potential, it will be able to generate renewable electricity representing 30% of the total electricity used in the plant. This reduces CO2 emissions in the brewing process, which generates 720 tons of CO2e per year, or 1.48 kgCO2e/HL, over a 10-year period. The solar installation can produce about 1,700 megawatt hours of clean energy per year, an amount equivalent to the annual electricity consumption of the sub-district’s households.

Thai Asia’s production manager said:<< The environment is a central concern of our company and our beverage production plant has always integrated the environmental dimension into its operations, whether in terms of wastewater treatment or disposal of environmentally harmful waste and more recently with this goal of using clean energy in beverage production. The company initiated this sustainability strategy with the Heineken “Brew A Better World” program, which focuses on creating a balance for both business and the environment by maximizing the efficiency of renewable and other energy sources. This will help reduce the manufacturing sector’s carbon footprint to be on target for 2030 as planned and in line with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals.”
