Thailand expresses deep condolences to Japan

The former Prime Minister of Japan, Shinzo Abe died last Friday after being seriously wounded by gunfire during a rally for the senatorial elections.

Thailand wished to express its deepest condolences on the death of the former prime minister who contributed greatly to the strengthening of relations between the two nations.

Mr. Thanakorn Wangboonkongchana, government spokesman, officially conveyed the condolences of the Prime Minister and the Minister of Defense, General Prayut Chan-o-cha, on behalf of the government and all the people of Thailand. The Thai Prime Minister expressed his deepest condolences to the family of the deceased, as well as to the government and people of Japan.

During his eight years as prime minister, Abe had played a leading role in strengthening the friendship between uring his eight years as prime minister, Abe had played a leading role in strengthening the friendship between Thailand and Japan. In 2013 during is visit to Thailand Mr. Shinzo Abe renewed the friendship between the two countries following the first official visit of a Japanese leader in 11 years. This official visit laid a solid foundation for lasting relations and bilateral cooperation. The late Prime Minister was also a strong supporter of ASEAN-Japan relations for many years.
