Thailand recorded more than 2.2 million international travelers in the first half of 2022, a result that confirms the perspective of the Ministry of Interior.
Mr. Thanakorn Wangboonkongchana, government spokesman, said Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha was pleased with the rate of foreign visitors to the country. A report from the Ministry of Tourism and Sports said that a total of 2,214,132 international tourists arrived in Thailand between January 1 and July 6 of this year, which corresponds to an estimated tourism revenue of 125 billion baht
The top travelers came from India, Malaysia, the United Kingdom and the United States, the statement also revealed that the number of tourists had increased significantly following the removal of the Test & Go program and the Thailand Pass.
The government official said domestic travel also generated nearly 305 billion baht in the first half of the year, with Bangkok, Chonburi, Kanchanaburi, Prachuap Khiri Khan and Phetchaburi being the most visited provinces for interior travel.
According to the government, these figures are encouraging for the recovery of the economy and the tourism industry, especially in the run-up to the peak season from October to December, during which authorities expect about one million tourists per month.
The numbers also reflect travelers’ confidence in Thailand’s public health system, the government’s ability to cope with various circumstances, and the community’s cooperation in maintaining precautions to prevent infection.
Nonetheless, the government urges the public and tourists to continue to follow public health rules in order to have a safe and enjoyable travel experience in Thailand.
