On Friday, the Chinese and Thai badminton associations signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to promote exchange and cooperation in the sport.
Zhang Jun, president of the Chinese Badminton Association, and KhunyingPatama Leeswadtrakul, president of the Thai Badminton Association, signed the agreement. Han Zhiqiang, China’s ambassador to Thailand, witnessed the signing.
Zhang expressed his hope that the MoU will lead to great success for both countries’ shuttlers in major competitions such as the Olympic Games and Asian Games. He also thanked the Thai Badminton Association for assisting the Chinese badminton team in establishing a training base in Thailand for international tournaments.
KhunyingPatama, for her part, stated that cooperation with China would benefit Thai badminton development in both the short and long term.
KhunyingPatama, a member of the International Olympic Committee (IOC), praised China’s assistance to other countries, including in sports development. She also recalled China’s “splendid” Beijing Winter Olympics and Paralympics, saying that the great performance of Chinese athletes, as well as the Games’ officials and volunteers, left her with lasting impressions.
According to the MoU, the two countries’ badminton associations will encourage and promote the exchange of programs, experiences, skills, and techniques in areas such as athlete and coach training to promote the development of badminton.
