The Ministry of Public Health has announced that it will meet with Bangkok Governor Chadchart Sittipunt to discuss plans to reduce public activities to prevent the spread of COVID-19.
According to Dr. Kiattiphum Wongrajit, permanent secretary of public health, COVID infections are on the rise, particularly in Bangkok, its surrounding provinces, and major tourist destinations. He warned that the capital has the highest risk of transmission due to its size and population, high commuter mobility, and frequent mass activities.
Dr. Kiattiphum stated that the governor has been invited to the medical and public health emergency meeting, where he will be asked to limit public activities that pose a high risk of spreading infections.
According to Dr. Kiattiphum, people with severe or moderate COVID symptoms occupy an average of 13% of hospital beds nationwide, with the exception of Bangkok, where the figure exceeds 42%.
The ministry also recommends that people receive two vaccine injections and a booster shot every four months.
