Mr. Thawatchai Srithong, Governor of Chonburi Province, presided over the opening ceremony of the 151st Buffalo Running Tradition at the field in front of the Mueang Chonburi District Office in Chonburi Province, with Mr. Wittaya Khunpluem, President of the Chonburi Provincial Administrative Organization, and the management team and members of the Council and personnel of the Chonburi Provincial Administrative Organization participating in the wagon parade.
Chonburi’s streets will be intersected by a caravan of 13 wagons this year. This celebration honors the province of Chonburi’s long-standing customs and rituals. Long-standing customs are an important element of this areas cultural identity and should be preserved for future generations.
Every year on the 14th day of the 11th lunar month, which is one day before the end of Buddhist Lent, a significant custom known as the “buffalo running tradition” begins. From October 1-9, 2022, the 151st iteration of this event took place on the fields in front of the Mueang Chonburi District Office and the Chonburi City Hall.
The event featured a number of competitions, including a beauty buffalo contest, a water buffalo breeding competition, a beautiful buffalo decoration competition, a number of buffalo running competitions, a drawing and painting competition, a buffalo stucco painting competition, a little Ban Na Girl Contest, and a number of Thai sports competitions.
