General Prawit Wongsuwan, Deputy Prime Minister, visited the Krabi area on March 20, 2023, to follow up on the conservation and restoration of Nong Lai water sources in Khao Phon District, with the goal of resolving the water shortage problem for consumption and agriculture in two sub-districts, 1,663 households, and a 2,260-rai agricultural area.
During his visit, General Prawit was accompanied by Mr. Chayan Muangsong, Deputy Secretary-General of the National Water Resources Office, and other heads of relevant government agencies.

The officials met with Krabi Province Governor Passakorn Bunyalak and presented him with a report on the province’s overall work.
They also participated in the second phase of the Nong Lai Water Resources Conservation and Rehabilitation Project, as well as meetings with local residents.
Following General Prawit’s arrival, the atmosphere became lively as Khao Phanom District housewives performed an interior dance to bless the occasion. General Prawit also presented a certificate of honor to outstanding women from Krabi Province’s Women’s Volunteer Club for Social Development. However, he refused to discuss politics or introduce himself in any way as a candidate for the House of Representatives for Krabi Province in all three constituencies and on another Palang Pracharat Party list.
The Nong Lai Water Resources Conservation and Restoration Project in Krabi Province received 12 380,000 baht from the 2010 budget for phase one, which was used to address the issue of insufficient water for drinking and farming.
The Phru Tieo Subdistrict Administrative Organization will set aside funds later in 2019 for dredging and improving the original soil embankment, which was reinforced with concrete.
An additional budget of 5,525,862 baht was set aside for the second phase to transform the project into a health park and tourist destination.
The project produced 339,000 cubic meters of water storage, which benefited 1,663 households and a 2,260-rai agricultural area.
During his visit, General Prawit emphasized the importance of water reserves in meeting people’s needs, particularly in areas prone to flooding and drought. He requested that these areas be checked on a regular basis and that plans be developed to address issues and ensure that there is enough water in the area in the future. Krabi Province has a history of flooding from mudslides, flooding, and flash floods due to the steep slope of its river terrain. From 2018 to 2022, 432 plans and projects with a total capacity of 10.41 million cubic meters were implemented, benefiting areas of 23,442 rai and 14,984 households. The protected area is 2,455 rai, with a dam built to protect the bank at 4,489 meters. The Khlong Hin Reservoir Project, Khlong Hin Subdistrict, Ao Luek District; the Huai Sai Khao Reservoir Drainage System Project, Phase 2, Sai Khao Subdistrict, Khlong Thom District; the dam to prevent bank erosion along Khlong Klung, Thap Prik Subdistrict, Mueang Krabi District; and the development of water resources for agriculture in the Krabi Agricultural Land Reform Office’s operating area are notable projects.
