Deputy Governor of Krabi Province leads Songkran celebration to preserve Thai culture

The Songkran festival is a cherished event in Thailand, celebrated every year to mark the start of the traditional Thai New Year. This year, at the black crab sculpture by the Pak Nam Dam in front of Krabi Town, Pak Nam Sub-district, and Krabi Municipality, the Deputy Governor of Krabi Province, Somchai Hanphakdee Patima, joined hands with locals and visitors alike to partake in the festivities and preserve the Thai way of Songkran.

On this auspicious day, Mr. Somchai Hanphakdee Patima offered his blessings to those who had gathered to make merit. The Deputy Governor, together with government agency heads, the people of Krabi Province, as well as Thai and foreign tourists, took part in making merit by offering rice, dry food, and drinking water to 120 monks attending the ceremony of pouring water on the Phra Phuttha Sihing portrait of a royal poet, Luang Pu Sing, former abbot of Wat Kaew Ko Wararam, Royal Aram Luang, Krabi province.

Pol. Col. Somdej Sukkarn, the mayor of Krabi Municipality, emphasized the significance of the Songkran Day in expressing the identity of the Thai nation. The festival is an embodiment of the value of tradition and culture passed down from ancestors over centuries. It is a day for the Thai people to pay their respects and express gratitude to their benefactors, both living and deceased, and serves as a bridge between the past and present, a bond that has been deeply rooted in the Thai people’s minds for generations.

Krabi Province has always been proud of its cultural heritage, and it is fitting that children, youth, and the people of Krabi Province should work together to ensure that this beautiful tradition remains intact for future generations. Songkran Day is not only a celebration of Thai culture but also a showcase of the country’s hospitality and inclusivity towards visitors from all corners of the globe. As Mr. Somchai Hanphakdee Patima and the people of Krabi Province come together to preserve the Thai way of Songkran, they bring hearts to the world and make their mark in the annals of Thai culture.
