Thailand’s Rainy Season Begins, Lasts Until Mid-October

The rainy season officially began in Thailand on May 21, 2024, and will continue until mid-October. According to the Meteorological Department, one or two tropical storms are anticipated to impact the northeastern and northern regions in August or September.

Rainfall this year is predicted to be normal, with an expected increase of about one percent compared to last year. From late May until mid-June, rain will become more frequent, covering 40%-60% of the country. Isolated heavy rain is expected in eastern, southern, and western regions, affecting up to 80% of these areas.

From mid-June to mid-July, rainfall will decrease, potentially leading to water shortages in areas without irrigation systems. However, more rain is forecast from August to September, covering 60%-80% of the country. This period may see isolated heavy rain, resulting in flash floods and watercourse overflows.

The cold season is anticipated to begin in October, starting in the northern and northeastern regions, with rain gradually decreasing. Despite this, some areas in the central, eastern, and southern regions may still experience isolated heavy rainfall during October.

Officials and relevant authorities are closely monitoring the situation, prepared to address potential water shortages and flood risks, ensuring the safety and well-being of the population.
