Investigation Intensifies: Three Oil Tankers Vanish, Officers Expelled

On June 13, 2024, a significant development emerged in the ongoing investigation regarding the disappearance of three oil tankers from the Sattahip Marine Police Pier in Chonburi Province. Pol. Maj. Gen. Charoonkiat Pankaew, Deputy Commander of the Central Investigation Police, together with Pol. Col. Intharat Panya, Superintendent of Marine Police Division 5, and Pol. Col. Anek Taosupap, Deputy Commander-in-Chief of the Central Investigation Bureau, convened a meeting to delve into the matter and ascertain pertinent facts. The disappearance of the oil tankers, along with the issuance of arrest warrants for 17 crew members, underscored the gravity of the situation. The preliminary examination revealed deficiencies in the Marine Police’s performance, prompting the order to expel five marine police officers to assist the government.

During the nearly three-hour meeting, officials scrutinized the circumstances surrounding the disappearance, highlighting lapses in duty that led to damage and necessitated legal action against responsible parties. The investigation, conducted in tandem by the Marine Police and the ONCB, aims to uncover any offenses under Section 157 and ensure thorough prosecution. While attention shifts towards summoning and interrogating the crew members, efforts are also underway to expedite the recovery of assets and accelerate legal proceedings.

Notably, the involvement of the five police officers in aiding the government underscores the multifaceted approach adopted to address the situation comprehensively. Additionally, the coordination with Cambodian authorities signals a concerted effort to track down the missing vessels and hold accountable those involved in the illicit activities.

As the investigation progresses, revelations regarding ownership discrepancies and irregularities in ship registration shed light on the complex nature of the case. The collaborative efforts between law enforcement agencies, coupled with stringent adherence to protocols for handling seized items, reflect a commitment to upholding justice and maintaining maritime security.

Moving forward, the diligent pursuit of truth and accountability remains paramount, with officials steadfast in their resolve to prosecute any wrongdoing and ensure the integrity of law enforcement operations.
