Election Commission to Announce 200 New Senators Today

The Election Commission (EC) has announced that the identities of 200 new senators will be revealed at 5 p.m. today. This follows a rigorous selection process that saw 2,989 candidates vying for positions at the national level, according to EC Chair Itthiporn Boonpracong.

Itthiporn detailed that the election officials will first brief the candidates on the voting process, a session expected to last 20-30 minutes. The initial round of voting will then begin, during which 40 candidates from each of the 20 eligible background groups will be selected. This phase is anticipated to take approximately two and a half hours.

Following the completion of the first round, the second round of voting will start at 2 p.m. In this round, candidates will vote for individuals outside their own background group. This final phase of voting is also expected to last around two and a half hours, concluding between 4 p.m. and 4:30 p.m.

The detailed process ensures a thorough and fair selection of the new senators, with the results to be made public later in the day. EC Chair Itthiporn Boonpracong, along with other officials, will oversee the proceedings and ensure transparency throughout the selection process.
