Rescued Baby Dugong Returned to Sea in Krabi

On Wednesday, officers from Hat Nopparat Thara – Mu Ko Phi Phi National Park in Krabi Province successfully rescued a stranded male baby dugong at Ao Thung, Ao Nang Subdistrict. The local community had reported the presence of the stranded dugong on June 24.

Yutthapong Damsrisuk, head of the national park, detailed that the dugong is one meter long, has a body circumference of 60 centimeters, and weighs approximately 30 kilograms. After the rescue, the dugong swam back to the sea normally.

Officials speculate that the young dugong might be the offspring of a female dugong that was found dead in a crab net on June 23. They noted that if the calf had been foraging with its mother, it would likely not have become stranded.

Several officials and local residents were present during the rescue, contributing to the successful return of the dugong to its natural habitat.
