Fire Destroys Prototype Tram in Khon Kaen

A fire erupted in a light rail transit vehicle, designed by professors from Rajamangala University of Technology Isan, Khon Kaen Campus, at 12:10 a.m. on July 1. The blaze occurred at a vehicle assembly company in Mueang Khon Kaen District. Firefighters faced challenges in extinguishing the fire due to the batteries installed in the tram. Consequently, they had to let the fire burn until the entire vehicle was damaged before they could spray water to contain the flames at around 1:45 a.m. Two carriages were damaged in the incident.

The “Little Tram,” an electric train developed from the study of “Tram 907” donated by Japan, was the focus of this unfortunate event. The university had received a budget to develop this prototype train. This development was intended to be presented to the Prime Minister during his mobile cabinet meeting in Nakhon Ratchasima province.

The event saw the attendance of various officials and individuals who monitored the situation closely. The incident highlights the potential hazards associated with battery-operated vehicles and underscores the importance of rigorous safety measures.
