EXAT Governor Reviews Koh Chang Expressway Plan in Trat

The meeting, held at the Ploy Daeng conference room in Trat’s City Hall, involved representatives from various government agencies, the private sector, and local villagers. Governor Surachet attended the Joint Public and Private Committee to develop and resolve economic issues in Trat province, providing detailed information on the proposed expressway project.

Governor Surachet explained that the meeting served as a platform to disseminate information and foster understanding of the project’s objectives. It also aimed to gather opinions and suggestions from stakeholders, including the Deputy Governor of Trat and relevant government agencies. These inputs will be considered in the subsequent stages of the project’s feasibility study.

The project follows the directives issued by the Ministry of Transport on February 10, 2023, which tasked EXAT with conducting a survey, study, and design for a bridge connecting Koh Chang to the mainland. The feasibility study encompasses technical, economic, financial, and environmental impacts, aiming to provide a safer and more convenient travel option for Koh Chang visitors while enhancing the island’s transport potential and promoting tourism.

The study focuses on the engineering, economic, and financial viability of the project, along with preparing a detailed design and an Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) report. Governor Surachet highlighted that input from provincial authorities, including Trat Governor Natthaphong Sanguanjit, is crucial for determining potential starting and ending points for the project and ensuring it promotes economic, social, and tourism benefits.

The project must also consider environmental impacts, avoiding sensitive ecological areas, educational institutions, religious sites, government offices, communities, and national forest reserves. Governor Surachet emphasized that the public sector in Trat is committed to supporting the feasibility study’s progress.

During his visit, Governor Surachet inspected the proposed areas for the expressway’s construction, including Laem Ngop, Ao Tha Kradan, and Thammachat Bay on the mainland, and the connection points on Koh Chang at Ban Dan Mai, Ban Khlong Ta Kerd, and the Koh Chang ferry terminal at Ban Ao Sapparot.
