A gruesome murder unfolded in Bangkok when a soldier brutally killed his girlfriend, a former housekeeper at the Thai Parliament, with a samurai sword. The incident occurred on June 29.
Officers from Sam Sen Police Station apprehended 24-year-old Sunai, the primary suspect in the murder of 30-year-old Khemruthai. Authorities discovered Khemruthai’s body with a 58-centimetre samurai sword embedded in her chest. Sunai had been detained at Dusit Police Station since the previous night and was brought to the crime scene at an apartment on Nakhon Chai Si Road in Bangkok’s Dusit district yesterday morning. Upon arrival, he was asked to re-enact the murder.
Sunai revealed that he had visited a friend earlier in the day and returned to his apartment at around 5 p.m. He described how he grabbed the sword from atop a wardrobe while Khemruthai was applying powder in front of a mirror. He then turned her around, lifted her shirt, and stabbed her once in the chest.
Despite reporters’ attempts to question Sunai about his motives and feelings of remorse, he remained silent, calmly walking to the police vehicle. The police escorted him to the apartment building, where he pointed out the locations involved in the crime, including the second-floor room where the murder took place.
During the re-enactment, Sunai detailed his actions, explaining how he wiped the blood off the sword, took a shower, changed into his military uniform, and left the apartment around 7:50 p.m., according to KhaoSod. He was later taken to Sam Sen Police Station for further questioning. Throughout the process, Sunai consistently refused to answer any questions from the media.
