Prime Minister Prepares Suvarnabhumi Airport for High Tourist Season

Prime Minister Paetongtarn Shinawatra conducted an inspection at Suvarnabhumi International Airport, evaluating recent improvements aimed at preparing for Thailand’s high tourism season.

Joined by Deputy Prime Minister and Transport Minister Suriya Juangroongruangkit, Tourism Minister Sorawong Thienthong, and other officials, Shinawatra stressed the need for elevated service standards to enhance Thailand’s position as a tourism hub and drive economic growth through increased tourist traffic. The Prime Minister emphasized that providing international visitors with a smooth, welcoming experience is crucial, calling for agency coordination and volunteer support to manage the anticipated influx of tourists.

During the visit, Shinawatra highlighted the strategic role of Thailand’s Soft Power in creating memorable visitor experiences. She urged a focus on optimizing check-in procedures and leveraging technology, such as Suvarnabhumi’s Biometric Identification System, which uses facial recognition to expedite entry and exit for travelers. Her review also included discussions on improving travel logistics, particularly in northern areas recovering from flood impacts, as the tourism sector in these regions continues to rebound. Shinawatra’s airport visit comes ahead of her planned attendance at the 31st Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) summit in Peru next week.

Government Spokesperson Jirayu Huangsub noted a 19.2% rise in passenger numbers this year, with significant traffic from China, India, and South Korea. Automated systems like Common Use Self-Service kiosks and Automated Passport Control have notably shortened wait times. The newly inaugurated Midfield Satellite Concourse, which has expanded the airport’s capacity and is nominated for the UNESCO Prix Versailles award, further strengthens Suvarnabhumi’s position as a leading tourism and aviation center in the region.
