The completion of the Rama II elevated road in Samut Sakhon has been delayed, with the new deadline set for November 2025, according to the Expressway Authority of Thailand (Exat). Originally scheduled for completion in June, the project faced technical challenges that hindered progress.
Transport Permanent Secretary Chayatan Phromsorn attributed the delay to difficulties in constructing the ascending sections of the road in the Bang Khunthian area. The elevated Motorway 82 (M82) spans a critical 4-kilometer stretch, linking Bang Khunthian, Ekkachai, and Ban Phaeo. Once completed, the road is expected to act as a crucial diversion route, alleviating congestion caused by accidents or breakdowns on Rama II Road.
In related developments, the Rama IX frontage bridge—another major infrastructure project—is nearing completion and is expected to open around the New Year. This cable-stayed bridge, part of the elevated road network connecting the Rama III Motorway, Dao Khanong, and the Western Beltway, will cross the Chao Phraya River. Mr. Chayatan highlighted that the bridge will help reduce traffic on the existing Rama IX Bridge and will be operational once the ascending roads in the Suksawat area are completed.
Officials, including representatives from Exat, remain focused on ensuring timely delivery of these projects, which are integral to reducing traffic congestion in the region.
