The Imagine Thailand Movement, supported by the Health Promotion Foundation (SSS), has announced the creation of a model wellness area in “Kuan Lae” in Thamaprao Village, Klongphon, Krabi Province. This initiative aims to reduce health risks and develop the area into a “spa city” destination for tourism. The community in 14 villages has united to transform the location into a space free from tobacco, alcohol, and drugs, promoting wellness and tourism activities under the event name “Taklom Chomle, The Charm of Thapraw.” The event witnessed strong community participation.
Krabi’s Governor, Angkorn Silatevakul, emphasized the importance of collaboration among various sectors to create safe spaces, protecting the community, especially the youth, from harmful substances and activities. The local leaders, religious figures, and Imagine Thailand Movement have worked together to establish this wellness space to promote physical and mental health, contributing to a positive environment.
Klongphon District’s Mayor, Nathamraks Chongrak, expressed pride in the success of the inaugural “Taklom Chomle” event, with positive responses from the community and athletes, particularly during the trail running competition, boat racing, oil pole climbing, and sea boxing events. He believes the project will help promote both wellness and community tourism. The Klongphon spa city strategy aims to develop Kuan Lae as a wellness destination that not only generates income but also promotes a healthy lifestyle, particularly among youth.
Dr. Udom Hongchatikul, the founder of Imagine Thailand Movement, stated that the creation of Kuan Lae as a model wellness area reflects the commitment of local leaders and community members. It is part of the broader movement to create safe, healthy environments for youth and to promote long-term wellness. The initiative includes activities such as exhibitions and a “Wellness Station,” where participants could share their visions for a healthy society and youth through written cards.
Suphitta Namsai, a community youth leader, emphasized the importance of cooperation to maintain the space and ensure it remains free from health risks like alcohol, tobacco, and drugs. She expressed confidence that the initiative will inspire further wellness developments across the country. Dr. Udom highlighted the significance of community cooperation in building wellness societies, noting that the success in Klongphon could serve as a model for other areas.
The Imagine Thailand Movement is committed to expanding this model, inviting key figures from various regions, including elders, school directors, business owners, and volunteers, to share experiences and promote the adoption of similar wellness initiatives throughout Thailand.
