Wild Elephant in Musth Kills Villager in Tak Province Forest

TAK — A villager in Ban Huai Krathing, Mae Tuen Subdistrict, Mae Ramat District, was fatally attacked by a wild elephant in the Khun Huai Khimo forest on December 7, 2024. The elephant, reportedly in a state of musth, became aggressive and attacked the victim, identified as Mr. Kho Di, approximately 50 years old.

Local residents, who witnessed the elephant, alerted village authorities and district officials. Mr. Prinya Sairot, the Mae Ramat District Chief, dispatched a team led by Mr. Phadungsit Thanboon, along with village leaders, to the scene. Officials confirmed the victim’s death at the location and secured the area, prohibiting interference with the body until investigators arrived.

Mae Ramat Police Station conducted an on-site investigation and initiated legal procedures. The incident underscores the risks posed by wild elephants during periods of heightened aggression, often linked to musth.
