A man armed with a knife and a gun killed two people and injured four others in a violent spree on Tuesday afternoon in Muang district, Prachin Buri, before being fatally stabbed by his victims.
The attacker, identified as 38-year-old Surat Thongbai, began his rampage at 1:34 p.m. at a shop near Prachinburi Commercial Vocational College in Na Mueang subdistrict. He shot and stabbed two people, killing one. Surat then fled the scene on a motorcycle, heading to his home near the Prachin Buri River.
He proceeded to a roasted chicken shop, where he attacked the shop’s owner, Somporn Saopanao, with a knife. Inside the shop, he fired his gun, injuring three others—Boonlert Saopanao, Krisada Saopanao, and Wanchai Sudjai. The victims overpowered Surat, seizing his weapon and stabbing him to death.
The injured were taken to Chao Phraya Abhaibhubejhr Hospital, where one later succumbed to injuries. Police investigations revealed that Surat, reportedly intoxicated and with a history of drug abuse, had initially gone to the first crime scene to demand money from relatives, resorting to violence when refused.
Authorities are continuing their investigation into the incident.
