The Royal Thai Police have issued a warning to motorists against decorating their vehicles with reindeer antlers or festive lights, stating that such modifications violate traffic regulations and may result in fines of up to 2,000 Baht.
Police Major General Siriwat Deepo, deputy spokesperson for the Royal Thai Police, emphasized that these decorations could pose serious risks to road safety. Antlers and fairy lights, he noted, can become detached while vehicles are in motion, potentially leading to accidents or endangering other road users.
The use of fairy lights is particularly concerning, as they can confuse other drivers and obstruct the visibility of essential signals like turn indicators and brake lights. In cases where these decorations contribute to accidents causing injury or loss of life, drivers may face severe legal consequences.
Authorities encourage citizens to report dangerously decorated vehicles by photographing them and contacting police hotlines. Reports can be made to 191 for general police assistance, 1197 for traffic-related concerns, or 1193 for highway incidents, all of which operate 24/7.
