A 26-year-old French student studying in Thailand was arrested in Bangkok on January 20 for allegedly sharing explicit content, including videos of intimate encounters with Thai women, on social media platforms, according to local police.
The arrest followed an investigation by the Immigration Bureau’s Investigation Division, prompted by reports of a foreign national distributing obscene material online. Authorities identified the suspect, referred to as Mr. K, and accused him of using social media to solicit encounters while openly boasting about his physical attributes. Acting on a warrant issued by the Northern Bangkok Criminal Court, officers raided a luxury condominium in the Chatuchak area, where the suspect was apprehended. Electronic devices and other related items were confiscated during the operation.
Police revealed that Mr. K admitted to his involvement after being presented with evidence, including the videos in question. He reportedly described his actions as a youthful mistake and claimed that he had ceased these activities over a year ago. However, law enforcement emphasized that the offense had already been committed, regardless of the suspect’s assertion of reform.
The case has raised concerns about privacy violations and potential exploitation, as police alleged that some of the women featured in the videos were unaware they were being filmed or that the content was being shared online. Investigators have urged any potential victims to come forward and seek legal assistance through the Immigration Bureau’s Investigation Division.
Police Lieutenant General Chairit Anurit, commander of Immigration Division 3, characterized the incident as a grave offense against public morality and a threat to Thailand’s reputation. He noted that digital evidence remains permanent and highlighted the importance of understanding and adhering to the law. The suspect now faces multiple charges under Thailand’s computer crime laws and regulations against the production and distribution of obscene materials.
Officials reiterated their commitment to addressing similar cases and warned that such actions could have far-reaching consequences for both individuals and the broader community.
