Eight Migrant Workers Found Hidden in Corn Truck in Tak Province

In a late-night operation on February 6, authorities in Tak Province uncovered eight illegal migrant workers concealed within a truckload of corn. The discovery was made at approximately 1:00 AM in Ban Huai Hin Fon, Village 6, Mae Pa Sub-district, Mae Sot District. The group, consisting of six men and two women, had reportedly hidden themselves among the corn piles in an attempt to reach Samut Prakan Province for employment opportunities.

The joint operation involved military task force officers, police, and local administrative officials, who conducted a routine inspection of the vehicle. The migrants, whose nationalities were not immediately disclosed, stated they were seeking work in Samut Prakan, a province known for its industrial zones and demand for labor.

The driver of the truck, identified as 36-year-old Mr. Saitan In-paeng, was arrested alongside the migrants. All individuals were transported to Mae Sot Police Station, where they face charges related to illegal entry and immigration violations. Authorities have not yet released further details regarding the migrants’ origins or the intended employers in Samut Prakan.

This incident highlights ongoing challenges in managing cross-border labor migration and human trafficking in the region. Tak Province, which shares a border with Myanmar, is a frequent transit point for undocumented workers seeking employment in Thailand’s more economically developed areas.

The operation was attended by military task force officers, police personnel, and administrative officials, who collaborated to ensure the enforcement of immigration laws. Further investigations are expected to determine the broader network involved in facilitating illegal migration.
