An Aeroflot flight from Phuket to Moscow experienced a landing gear issue yesterday, prompting a dramatic diversion to Bangkok’s Suvarnabhumi airport for an emergency landing. The aircraft, Flight SU 277, carrying 331 passengers and 15 crew members, had been circling over the Andaman Sea for several hours to burn off fuel before reaching the airport at 9:40 PM.
Kittipong Kittikachorn, director of Suvarnabhumi Airport, confirmed that the plane landed without incident. The passengers were safely transported to nearby hotels for the night, and their luggage was unloaded as the aircraft was towed to a maintenance center for inspection.
While there was no immediate need for an official emergency declaration, the airport’s emergency services were fully activated as part of standard procedure. Aviation sources revealed that throughout the flight’s extended circling, the pilot maintained regular communication with air traffic control, expressing a preference for Suvarnabhumi as a landing location. This decision allowed passengers to potentially catch alternative flights to Moscow, with the pilot assuring authorities of a safe landing.
No injuries were reported, and the situation was resolved without further complications.
