Krabi has launched its first-ever outdoor film festival, “Season of Movies, Season of Love,” in a bid to establish itself as a world-class film city. The event, held on February 15-16, 2025, at the Krabi Maritime Resort Hotel in Mueang District, was organized by the Krabi Restaurant Association and the Krabi Hotel Association, in collaboration with various local and national partners. The festival aims to highlight Krabi’s potential as a filming location while enhancing its appeal as a cultural and tourism hub.

The festival’s program featured outdoor screenings of four romantic films over two days, with a focus on themes of love in its various forms. The lineup included “Friend Zone” and “About Time” on February 15, followed by “Notting Hill” and “The Undertaker” on February 16. The screenings, which began at 3:00 p.m. each day, drew a large audience of both tourists and local residents.
Beyond film screenings, the event included discussions with renowned directors such as M.R. Chalermchatri Yukol, also known as Khun Chai Adam, and Thiti Srinuan, the director of “Sapre.” Additional attractions featured food stalls from well-known restaurants, live music performances, craft workshops, and exhibitions by local artists and businesses. Organizers emphasized sustainability, branding the event as a “Green Event” aligned with Krabi’s environmental initiatives and long-term tourism strategy.
Krabi Province has long served as a location for internationally recognized films, inspiring organizers to position the area as a “City of Film” under the UNESCO Creative Cities Network. Local officials highlighted the festival’s role in supporting the province’s creative economy, providing economic benefits to hotels, restaurants, artists, and small businesses. Sustainability was a key focus, with the event promoting waste reduction and eco-friendly practices under the “Krabi Go Green” initiative.

The opening ceremony was presided over by Krabi Governor Angkoon Silathewakul. Also in attendance were several local officials and representatives from tourism and business sectors, including Sarinthip Silathewakul, President of the Krabi Red Cross Society; Soraya Homchuen, Director of the Tourism Authority of Thailand’s Krabi Office; Supachai Rotthong, President of the Krabi Restaurant Association; Kasamaporn Limpanapongthep, President of the Krabi Hotel Association; and Wichuphan Phukaoluan Srisanya, an advisor to the Krabi Hotel Association. Their participation underscored the collaborative effort behind the festival’s success and its future potential.
