Rice Farmers in Nakhon Sawan Protest Over Falling Prices

Rice farmers in Nakhon Sawan staged a protest, calling on the government to address the declining prices of paddy rice. The demonstrators urged authorities to implement price guarantees and control the rising costs of agricultural supplies.

According to the farmers, current paddy prices range between 5,400 and 6,000 baht per ton, which they argue is insufficient to cover production costs. They are demanding a government-backed price guarantee of 12,000 baht per ton, along with regulations to curb the cost of essential farming materials such as fertilisers and insecticides. Additionally, they have requested a two-year moratorium on debt repayments to ease their financial burden.

During the protest, farmers carried placards highlighting their grievances, with one sign reading: “Fertilisers and insecticides are expensive, while rice prices are really low.” They warned that if their demands are not met, they will escalate their demonstrations.
