The TRRN Railway Challenge 2025 is set to take place from February 14 to 16, 2025, bringing together university students from across Thailand to design and build small-scale locomotives. The event, held at the Lam Ta Khong Research Center, will test teams in various technical and performance challenges, aiming to enhance skills in railway engineering and foster future professionals in the industry.
This year, 13 university teams will compete, including participants from institutions such as Kasetsart University, Suranaree University of Technology, and King Mongkut’s Institute of Technology Ladkrabang. The competition will be divided into two main categories:
- Presentation Challenge, which evaluates design concepts, CAD modeling, innovation, and technical posters.
- Track-Based Challenge, assessing performance in areas like traction, noise levels, ride comfort, reliability, energy consumption, and endurance.
A Similarity Index will also be introduced to measure how closely each team’s final locomotive aligns with its original design proposal. Judges will review and score the projects before the track tests commence.
The event provides a platform for students to engage with industry professionals, offering networking opportunities that could lead to future careers in railway engineering. Officials, faculty members, and industry experts are expected to attend.
