A nurse in Rayong Province was allegedly assaulted by a patient’s relative after advising against bringing a young child into a ward where a patient was being treated for a severe respiratory infection. The incident, which took place on February 16, led to legal action, with the nurse affirming her commitment to pursuing charges.
The dispute arose when the nurse reminded the family of hospital policies prohibiting children from visiting critically ill patients. According to the nurse, she had informed the patient’s daughter of the risks, including potential transmission of infection. However, the daughter’s husband, angered by what he perceived as disrespectful treatment, confronted the nurse and struck her twice. He later admitted to the act, citing a loss of temper.
The hospital administration reported that police were called to the scene, and the nurse received medical attention before filing a complaint. Security footage of the incident was handed over to authorities. Contrary to online claims suggesting the hospital pressured the nurse to drop charges, the management stated they supported legal proceedings.
In response to the case, the nurse expressed concern over workplace safety and emphasized that her warning was given with the patient’s and child’s well-being in mind. She added that no apology had been offered by the assailant. The incident has sparked discussions on healthcare workers’ protection against violence in medical settings.
