Thailand’s Tax Revenue Exceeds Expectations in Early 2025

The Thai Revenue Department has reported 646.2 billion baht in tax revenue for the first four months of fiscal year 2025 (October 2024 – January 2025), exceeding projections by 7.6 billion baht (1.2%) and marking a 3.8% increase from the previous year. Stronger tax enforcement and compliance measures have been credited for the higher-than-expected collection.

Direct tax revenue saw a notable rise, reaching 488.1 billion baht, reflecting a 5.6% year-on-year growth. Value-Added Tax (VAT) collection also experienced significant gains, with domestic VAT revenue increasing by 13%, amounting to 20.7 billion baht, while import VAT for January 2025 rose by 7.9%, generating 2.5 billion baht. Officials attribute these figures to improved enforcement and monitoring efforts.

In line with economic trends, the government is reviewing tax policies to address potential risks and enhance revenue collection. Meanwhile, the tax filing period for 2024 personal income tax returns is now open, with deadlines set for March 31 for paper filings and April 8 for electronic submissions. The new D-MyTax (Digital MyTax) system has been introduced to streamline electronic tax filing and payment services, integrating identity verification and prefilled forms to simplify the process.

Additionally, new regulations mandate online businesses and digital platforms to report income and transaction details, with non-compliance resulting in financial penalties and possible legal consequences. Tax authorities are leveraging data integration tools to monitor undeclared earnings and ensure compliance.

To assist taxpayers, the Revenue Department has expanded online filing options via its official website and mobile application, while support is available through Revenue Offices nationwide and the RD Intelligence Center Hotline 1161. Officials have also issued a warning against fraudulent schemes, emphasizing that the department will never request direct payments from taxpayers.
