Sergeant Major Arrested After Machete Threat in Parking Dispute

A Sergeant Major in Bangkok was arrested after allegedly threatening police officers with a machete during a dispute over a wheel clamp. The incident took place on February 26 in the Phayathai district after authorities penalized the man for parking in a restricted area.

The individual, identified as 59-year-old Sergeant Major Chayakrit, had briefly parked his car to take his child to the restroom. Upon returning moments later, he found his vehicle clamped for violating parking regulations. Frustrated by the situation, he retrieved a machete from his car and confronted the officers, reportedly demanding to settle the fine on-site rather than at the police station.

Police refused to negotiate under duress, leading to a tense standoff that required reinforcements. After a period of negotiation, officers managed to calm Chayakrit and persuaded him to put down the weapon. He was then taken into custody at Phayathai Police Station.

A subsequent search of his vehicle revealed no illegal items, and his child was found waiting quietly inside. Chayakrit later admitted he had acted out of frustration, acknowledging his overreaction to the situation.

Authorities charged him with obstructing traffic, illegal parking, carrying a weapon in public, and causing a public disturbance. He was fined 900 baht and released. The case was reported by Daily News.
