Thailand experienced a 5.9% rise in foreign tourist arrivals from January 1 to March 2 compared to the same period last year, according to the Tourism and Sports Ministry.
A total of 7 million international visitors arrived during this timeframe, with 1.1 million coming from China, the ministry reported. The National Economic and Social Development Council (NESDC) projected in February that the country could welcome 38 million foreign tourists in 2025. Before the Covid-19 pandemic, Thailand saw a record 40 million visitors in 2019.
To support domestic tourism, the ministry announced last week that it plans to introduce a co-payment package in May, aimed at encouraging travel during the country’s low season, which lasts from May to September.
