A violent confrontation in Phuket’s renowned Bangla Road nightlife district has drawn significant attention online after video footage surfaced showing foreign tourists fleeing from a group of transgender women before a physical altercation ensued. The incident, which unfolded in the early hours of March 5, left two Israeli tourists injured and sparked a flurry of reactions across social media.
According to Police Lieutenant Pongpipat Khamchoomphoo, Deputy Inspector of Patong Police Station, the conflict began when a group of 4-5 transgender women confronted two Thai women, Wilaiporn, 21, and Sunisa, 23, accusing them of attempting to steal Israeli clients. The argument quickly escalated, drawing in two Israeli tourists, Nathan and Ofir, who attempted to intervene. A chaotic scene followed, with the tourists attempting to flee down the street as they were pursued by the transgender individuals.
During the confrontation, both parties sustained injuries, though it remains unclear to what extent. Emergency medical responders were quick to attend to the tourists, providing first aid before they were transported to Patong Hospital for further care. Authorities later tracked down three transgender individuals involved in the altercation – Suwicha, 20, Apisit, 28, and Siwaphum, 29 – and summoned them to acknowledge charges of public disturbance, which carries a penalty of a fine up to 5,000 baht. The tourists involved were also charged with the same offense.
While this incident remains under investigation, it has already prompted widespread online commentary, raising concerns over public safety and the challenges of managing such conflicts in the popular tourist district.
Authorities are continuing their efforts to resolve the situation, with legal proceedings set to follow.
