A Russian tourist has sought media attention after claiming no progress has been made in her case involving an assault inside a Phuket taxi. The incident, which occurred on January 28, 2025, involved a woman sitting in the front passenger seat of a commercial taxi who allegedly struck the tourist during the ride. The victim has since urged Chalong Police Station to take further action.
The altercation was captured on video and later circulated on the Facebook page “Hod Jung Phuket.” The footage shows the woman, believed to be the taxi driver’s partner, turning to the passenger and stating, “This is my country, you know,” before slapping her. The driver can be heard questioning the act, while the tourist reacts with shock. The clip has sparked criticism online, particularly over the presence of an unauthorized passenger in a commercial taxi.
The victim, identified as 31-year-old Ekaterina, reported the incident to Chalong Police Station the following day. She stated that she had booked the ride using the “In Driver” app to travel from Patong Soi 11 to her accommodation in Choeng Thale. According to her statement, the assault took place as the vehicle was passing through Chalong district. She provided authorities with the taxi’s license plate details and emphasized her intent to press charges.
Despite filing a report with Deputy Investigation Inspector Police Lieutenant Thiti Champat, Ekaterina claims that little has been done to advance the case. Frustrated by the lack of updates, she has turned to the media in hopes of prompting further investigation.
The case has drawn public concern, with discussions surrounding passenger safety and the responsibilities of taxi services in Thailand. Officials have not yet provided further details on the progress of the investigation.
