Article: BANGKOK (NBT WORLD) – Prime Minister Paetongtarn Shinawatra led a key economic policy meeting on March 10, 2025, where the third phase of the 10,000-baht stimulus package was approved. This expansion is part of the government’s ongoing efforts to address the economic challenges posed by global disruptions and to stimulate domestic growth. Notably, the new phase includes provisions for citizens without smartphones to access the financial aid through a newly introduced registration system.

The meeting, which was attended by senior ministers and government officials, included an extensive review of economic performance for 2024 and discussions on strategies for 2025. Participants examined 46 stimulus programs, which cover a broad range of areas including private consumption, government expenditure, investment, and exports. The Ministry of Finance projected a modest GDP growth of 3% for the year, but government officials emphasized that collaborative efforts with the private sector and other ministries would aim to surpass this target.

Prime Minister Shinawatra highlighted tourism and exports as the primary drivers of the economy moving forward and urged for policies that would promote long-term stability. He called for targeted measures that would ensure the continued growth of these key sectors, which play an integral role in supporting the national economy.

In the third phase of the stimulus package, updated eligibility criteria were introduced, expanding access to financial aid for more citizens. This is particularly aimed at those who may not have access to smartphones but still require assistance. The government has tasked relevant agencies with implementing the program and preparing a formal proposal for Cabinet approval.

To ensure that funds are used effectively, government officials are taking steps to enhance fraud detection mechanisms. A dedicated committee has been appointed to monitor the distribution of funds and to investigate any potential irregularities. Legal measures will be taken against those who misuse the funds, and efforts will be made to recover any misallocated amounts to maintain transparency.
