M6 highway eases Songkran traffic with over 590000 users

The Bureau of Traffic Safety, under the Department of Highways, has summarized the usage data for the special opening of Motorway Route 6 (M6) during the 2025 Songkran festival. The section from Hin Kong to Pak Chong, opened for outbound traffic from Bangkok between April 11 and 13, recorded a total of 110,457 vehicles. This helped relieve traffic on Phahon Yothin Road (Hin Kong–Saraburi section) by 33 percent and on Mittraphap Road (Saraburi–Pak Chong section) by 35 percent.

Inbound traffic on the same section, open from April 14 to 17, saw 127,302 vehicles. The use of this route again eased pressure on Phahon Yothin Road by 33 percent and on Mittraphap Road by 39 percent.

The Pak Chong–Nakhon Ratchasima segment, which was accessible in both directions throughout the holiday, was used by 354,485 vehicles—163,612 heading into Bangkok and 190,873 heading out. Traffic volume on Mittraphap Road near Lam Takhong was reduced by 44 percent inbound and 46 percent outbound.

The Department of Highways noted that the temporary use of M6 during peak holiday travel played a key role in alleviating bottlenecks on critical northeastern corridors.
