M81 Highway Helps Ease Holiday Traffic Congestion

The Department of Highways has reported that the M81 motorway, which links Bang Yai and Kanchanaburi, helped reduce traffic congestion during the recent Songkran holiday period. The report, issued by the Office of Road Safety, covers usage statistics between April 11 and 17.

Data shows that the Bang Yai–Nakhon Pathom section of the M81 saw a total of 155,305 vehicles. Of these, 74,801 were heading inbound while 80,504 were outbound. The added route contributed to easing traffic pressure on Highway 4, particularly in the Nakhon Chai Si area, by 15% for inbound traffic and 18% for outbound.

Meanwhile, the Nakhon Pathom–Kanchanaburi section recorded 108,637 vehicles during the same period, with 53,607 inbound and 55,030 outbound. The section significantly relieved congestion on Highway 323 in the Tha Muang area, reducing traffic volume by 32% for inbound and 34% for outbound directions.

Officials from the Department of Highways were present during the data gathering and operations, with monitoring overseen by the Office of Road Safety to ensure smooth travel during the holiday season.
